Adventurous Doom is the best way I can describe Unreal, swap out the demons for aliens and swap the bases for mines, temples and alien bases. It's good fun. If you are looking at reviews and want to play (Epic Games delisted everything because "we want to focus on that other game that makes us money"), OldUnreal has the full game on their website, check it out.

I don't know how much good a review does if you can't even buy it anymore but this really is one of the greatest single player FPS of all time. I would absolutely say on par with Half-Life 1. It is insane to me it doesn't get more recognition. I discovered it from a coincidence from a coincidence. I was mapping for Half-Life 1 and got a tutorial for mapping for UnrealEd (Unreal Editor, the map editor for this engine)...

Unreal is one of the most masterfully designed games of all time. Superb and unreal games. Even after 28 years, the music from *Unreal Gold* and *Unreal Tournament* stays with me. I love Boomer Shooters, but this is so incredibly meh.
