Very intuitive editor, easy and natural to use once you get the hang of it.

And I hated it until I did not

If you want to make very simple mobile games, this engine is good. However, as soon as you need complex collision shapes, such as concave ones, it becomes very complicated and confusing. For cases like that, I’d recommend Godot instead. Still, thumbs up: free engines should always be supported.

I absolutely adore Lua. It is by far my favourite scripting language. (apart from GDscript) So, of course, I tried Defold after my LOVE2D experience was an absolute failure, I like a lot of what Defold is trying to do. I like the interface and the scripting element is pretty straightforward. But, what ultimately drove me away was just how much boilerplate is required and how frustrating it is to create GUI. I...

I am an experienced game developer of many years and have used many tools. Defold is the absolute best out there for 2D game development for Steam games / web / mobile. It is free, it is actively developed by a dedicated team who care about quality, efficiency, stability, productivity, maintainability, and its source code is all public on GitHub if you need to modify something yourself! All of the games I am making...

I don't have much usage time on here because I have been using Defold since 2017, long before it was on Steam. Defold is sometimes billed as "the ultimate game engine for web and mobile" - but I'd like to highlight that it is capable of so much more. My game Fates of Ort is made in Defold. It is a complex isometric RPG for Win/Mac/Linux. Take a look at the trailer to get a feel for one example of a complex desktop...

I would like to state that Defold is one of the best options for 2D game development out there today. It is 3D capable, but focused on 2D. Over time, I have used a variety of game engines, mainly the big titles who everyone knows or has heard of, but never has there been any engine that matches Defold in both flexibility and performance. Defold is truly cross-platform. You create your game once and without making...

I'm using Defold for all my gamedev projects. It's free with source. I even contribute changes to the engine. It's incredibly lightweight. It builds for almost all modern platforms except Xbox, which is currently in the works. The ECS-based architecture makes it super fast, and the community is amazing - always ready to help with any issue. Our small 2-person studio has released 5+ games with Defold, and it's...

I have been using the engine for a long time. Since it became publicly available. I've written a lot of extensions for it and have released a lot of games for a wide variety of platforms. The main advantages for me are: * True cross-platform. I can write a game that works great on mobile, then release it to html5 and the game will work fine there too. * Speed and size. The games are very small and run very fast....

I am using Defold for a long, long time before it was on Steam and I am very happy with it! Engine is reliable, easy to understand and learn, convenient to use, just perfect for games I am creating (Witchcrafter, Secret Moon Station, Angry Caveman, Water Sources and so on) It can be stretched to make very complex PC games (like Fates of Ort - a fantasy RPG, Interrogation: You will be deceived - a detective...
