I played this game for unspeakable hours, building up my gladiator and making it to the final boss. This final boss turns out to be a literal clone of my character, and by sheer RNG chance, I lost. Be extremely careful with “New Game.” I mildly enjoyed Gods of Sand for quite a while, although by the end the combination of permadeath and the long sequence of battles had started to become a slog. The game is simple and a little grindy, but there is fun to be had managing your stable of gladiators. Random events keep you on your toes. There are a number of different gladiator builds to try out of the skill tree, but the sheer number of combats means that combat will get stale regardless. If you like roman arena management games, this one will do.

At first the game is very engaging and fun, then it get's grindy and slow. If they could fix the pacing, it would be a good game

I think this game has a lot of potential if they fix these crucial issues 1. contracts feel pointless imo, they should have unique weapon or armor rewards if not whats the point, you can make more money just sending them to the arena and they are more likely to survive 2. After a while the basic grind for money in the arena gets boring, this could get fixed with more interesting/unique fights and scenarios my only...

I'm not normally one to leave reviews, but the very first review I read said this game is bs because the final boss is just you. The previous reviewer lost and died. The final boss is not you. There's like 8ish fights in a row leading up to the final boss, 1 of those fights is in fact a slightly weaker clone of you. This is more of a neutral rating. While I enjoyed the core idea and certain aspects of the game, I did not appreciate the progression, i.e. mid game it's just grind and painful waiting through loading screens, while end game felt interesting, but underwhelming given the time investment (I just quickly rammed through all the bosses and that was it...)
