We had it good back in 2000s: Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Quake 4, FEAR, Call of Juarez, Prey, Battlefield 2, Serious Sam 2 and others. The game still got it after 20 years. It's short (less than 10 hours, i think), it switches pace, doesn't give you fatigue of doing same stuff, it's atmospheric, no BS cutscenes or guiding hand tutorials. This game is basically Quake II-2 but it's a narrative driven game with a lot of waiting around for NPCs to do stuff. Not mind blowing, but still a fun shooter. This game definitely switches Quake into a more generic, slower military shooter, without Quake 1&2's fun/fast movement.
