SimCity 4 is a citybuilder game, the classic and essential one in fact. Its biggest strength is its involved systems, which for the time had you managing a staggering amount of variables for your city. As someone who's played all the SimCity games from way back when Windows 3.11 was king, this has always been my favourite version and has a cracking community dedicated to keeping it alive too. BUY IT!

Somehow, this ancient game is a better experience than Cities: Skylines. A cohesive art direction means this game will always look amazing. Also, the music SLAPS. One of my favorite game OSTs of all time for sure. It has a great gameplay loop, and you can connect cities on the world map to make a megalopolis with millions of sims. I have a nostalgic thing with the simcity series. If that is what you are looking for too, this game is ok for a couple hours a year. But it does not work well. From frequent crashes too me having to copy an city name from another program/screen and and into the box cuz typing on keyboard does not work.

Distinctly worse than simcity 2000. Many mechanics are essentially broken, "environmentally friendly" options are unbalanced - they're insanely cheap, provide far too much of what they give, and have zero downsides, to the point you will NEVER need to build anything else. If you ever raise taxes, everyone abandons your city no matter how perfect it is, and population growth is minimal even with low taxes....
