The early game here is pretty great, some nice open levels with lots of ways to play through them. Unfortunately those sections become few and far between as the game goes on and the late game here just straight up sucks, the game overstayed its welcome for me by a good 3 to 4 hours... Overall this feels like an amateur version of a post Resi 4 RE game, It's not horrible, if you like Mikami's stuff you will find...

Shinji Mikami did it with this one. 12 years later and I still love this game. The only two big problems are with the bugs and the way of storytelling. The Evil Within HAS a good story, but the writers told it badly.

silent hills aesthetics and resident evils gunplay and mechanics = evil within very good game would recommend dont listen to youtube reviews let yourself decide.

Was excited for the game but unfortunately it's unplayable with the mouse controls glitching out half of the time. People suggested changing the fps and other things but nothing helps.

Finally finished The Evil Within. I'm saying "finally" because I first played it a couple of years ago, but bounced off it for a very simple reason: Evil Within is actually a rather hard game, even on medium difficulty. A fantastic game that I highly recommend. I spent about 42 hours on it, completing everything including the DLCs. The atmosphere in this game is absolutely incredible. It doesn't rely entirely on cheap jumpscares either; the constant feeling that something is wrong is what makes it so effective. The sound design and environmental details make even ordinary areas feel unsettling. Definitely the kind of horror game that gets into your head and makes you think twice before playing alone at night.

beat this game about 4x on ps4 back in the day, absolutely loved it to death. i think at that point and time, shinji's vision for this game was just not understood. That reaction by the masses was similar to my own game, Death Stranding. - Hideous Kojima
