This game is a sightseeing simulator. It looks very pretty, but you'll mostly just run around very empty levels that barely feature any actual gameplay. One level is a simple maze on vines, another is the same but on clouds, a different level has you look for some switches, another has you on a giant, frozen lake with a leviathan that pops out beneath you every so often, and sometimes you even get to fight some...

This game artwork looks nice in the trailers, but I don't understand how to play it in a fun way. The gameplay simply sucks, absolutely would not recommend if you're coming from Spiritfarer.

Beautiful art sitting on tedious gameplay. Jotun: Valhalla Edition is drawn beautifully, and the atmosphere that it's able to produce is extremely well done. Pan-out shots serve their purpose really well, as they make you realise every time the sheer absurdity of the enemies that you are facing and the environments that you are exploring. Played this some years ago. Even though the game looks nice, the gameplay is all but. The mechanics are tedious at times, the pace is sluggish and makes it hard to enjoy this game. I really wanted to like this game, but it's downsides just drag it down too much to make it enjoyable.

A beautifully handcrafted experience. The simple, experience of exploring the world, it's puzzles and it's incredible sights is almost perfectly juxtaposed against the thrilling and epic fights against the massive, powerful Jotun. Coupled with possibly my favourite soundtrack of anything ever, I think you should check this out.

Jotun is all about patience and is way harder if you lack it, like me. I've spent 12 out of the 20 hours of playtime dying like an idiot. The combat is mostly very slow and methodical. It took me some time to get used to it. Generational lock-in is required to beat some of these bosses with no powers, especially in Valhalla Mode. Thunder Lotus' first game already has their fantastic art style and equally amazing music. Since it's also their first game, I have some gripes with it, mainly that the main character moves and attacks a little slowly for the exploration, some of the boss attacks are poorly telegraphed, and the level design is a little inconsistent at times. Jotun is one of the games where I wish I had a "maybe" option for my review. It does near everything right, but the one thing it doesn't do made it really hard for me to keep playing, as the difficulty of the game never felt quite right.
