The Old: I first played these games on an old AMD 80386 DX40 with 4 MB RAM, an 80387 FPU, and an ISA Orchid VGA card. After setting A220 D1 T3, configuring the Gravis JS, and a bare-bones autoexec.bat, I had enough of that sweet 640K to play this gem. The New: Installs and runs fine. My Sidewinder 3DPP isn't as configurable as I'd like. Bonus: I don't have to boot to DR-DOS and use moslo.exe to get it to run right.

The flight mechanics are still great with power management, shields and dogfighting, it all feels as good as the earlier games. On top of that, you get to fly for both the Rebels and the Empire. Here's a game that no trailers or screenshots can really make you understand. If you're a veteran of the old days and just here to see if this is worth getting to play on your modern rig, then yes, this is the same experience that you know, and it's been patched so you can play it without any problems. Just like I remembered it from 1997. One of the best classics of it's time. For a game originally designed for DOS and Windows 95 it's running pretty good on Windows 7 with a modern setup. My only complaint is I wish this had come out on Steam years ago!

Fond memories of this game, the nostalgia is real! Just a heads-up...If you own a Saitek X55, you're going to have issues. You see, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter only recognizes 1 joystick...and the X55 (the stick and throttle) counts as 2. Just be aware that if you only own an X-55 (like myself), it might be time to pick up a cheap stick for these older games. None of this is the game's fault of course, so I'm not blaming...

Can LucasArts PLEASE just remake this already??? 1) Keep the controls identical to the original 2) Update graphics 3) Persistent ships - Ship customization and personalization. Include Ship modding like in EVE Online. 4) Allow players to fly throughout the Star Wars universe I would kill to see a Star Wars game that did everything Star Citizen is trying to do.
