This version is way better than the 2019 remaster. Just grab FFNX and the PS1 music mod for it, both are easy to install. FF8 is a good game. I play/replay it because it's comfy and the music is fantastic. You don't have to grind levels, just draw magic - which you can bypass with a card game. I put 113 hours into FFVIII and I’m still not sure if Squall likes anyone, including me. But honestly? I loved every minute. this port is horrid. it took me years to even comprehend what was going on with the controller scheme to even be able to play it. the controller scheme actually works great! but only for the menu that pops-up pre-game. you need to set or download a community scheme to set your controller to keyboard. this is the only way i've been able to use a controller here. it took years to discover this. ok so it's been...

Last played in 2019 and I didn't write a review back then. Why would I write one in 2026? Because muffin button, I don't know. I was in the middle of this when the HD remaster was launched. I looked at the trailer for it and went right back to playing this version with the mods I already had installed. I'm not sure how stable the remaster is and what mods are available for that one, but the stability is alright...

controls are total ass and you have to sign into square enix. game is overall pretty slow but I am just playing it because its ass, in a weird its kinda fun cause its ass way.

While I still think its the weakest of the PS1 final fantasys, the game has grown on me over the years. While I'm still not a big fan of the junction system, trying something new is never a bad thing. There isn't much to be added here. This is one of the greatest video games of all time (in case you aren't aware!) FF8 is one of the greatest in the series and having it on PC without dealing with freezing discs is only an added bonus! A must have!

Decided to replay all the ff classics from my childhood, ff6-7 was fine but the controller scheme is just horrendous in ff8. I should not have to download ♥♥♥♥ or mod the game for basic controls to work. Hard pass.
