This might be an unpopular opinion, but I really didn't hate this. In fact, I might have liked it more than Gothic 3, which was trying to pretend it was an open world RPG but really wasn't. Playing this game as Arcania (not Gothic) was a fun experience for me. At least the first half of the game is rich in exploration of smaller hubs and the story drives the progress well enough. After Castle Silverlake the tide turned a bit. Less rewarding exploration, more and more fights, but still enough motivation to finish the main storyline.
