Abbot's Book Demo

Played with a Quest 2. I don't know if the rest of this game exists, but this is ok actually. Its immersive, has good graphics, good story, but the controls are a tiny bit weird: mainly left controller to select dialogue, and push down on control stick to select dialogue action. Motion is teleport/roomscale. Overall OK.

Abbot's Book Demo is a VR Demo game for a paid game The Abbot's Book. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. This short story and environment is gothic and creepy. You have a torch in one hand. The locomotion is ok. The only problem i saw was the dialogue audio was too low, might need a volume slider. Try it only if you are interest in the paid game The Abbot's Book.

I liked the dark environment and the way fire was used. I would recommend only if another way of locomotion was added. Now you have to press and hold the trigger of either controller. The few points you can teleport to from you current location begin to shine. I would not want to spend hours "walking" between predefined spots.

Creepy, but short. If you enjoy this experience you should also try Caliban Below. Amazing graphics and atmosphere. I dug around in the developer's Steam forums...they seem like good people. As things stand right now, this demo and Caliban Below may be some of the best examples of both atmosphere and storytelling available for VR right now.

There is a ton of potential here, although it falls short of the "wow" factor I think it was trying to achieve. I like these slow paced narrative-based games, and the progression is done fairly well here. The lighting is interesting, although it shows off some of the headset artifacting pretty badly. The 2d sprites have to go, and the teleportation mechanic feels quite wrong. But first entering the catacombs where...

A chilling glimpse into the upcoming eight-part Abbot's Book. I loved the eerie atmosphere and attention to detail. Although the demo is very short, I spent longer just admiring the environment as I explored the dark ruins by the light of a torch. Spooky, with a brooding gothic tone. I can't wait to see more!
