This is a recommendation, but with a lot of qualifiers. Rogue Squadron 3D is almost a masterpiece, but the game itself has one critical and fundamental flaw, and this PC port has issues that you will want to correct to get the most out of the game. Game runs mostly flawless strait out of the box on Linux with Proton GE (community one not officially from steam). No end of mission crash like on windows (didn't test steam version on windows, just retail cd I have) The camera bug where your ship flies away from you can be fixed via wing-man mod. This game can and will run like it did back in the day if you put just a little bit of work into it. Always a classic...

BEWARE: this game does not run well on modern hardware. I followed multiple guides on how to get it to run on a windows 11 pc and none of it worked. The ingame settings dont do anything video wise to make it run, and overall it is a chore to attempt to get this game to run properly. It sucks too, this game is objectively great. But it suffers from the fact that it just cannot run on modern hardware well.

Despite being over twenty-five years old and having some jank, Rogue Squadron 3D still holds up incredibly well. With a good variety of ships, fun levels, great art design, and unique environments, there is a lot to love about Rogue Squadron 3D. this version just... sucks, I tried my best to map controls for pc, and turn left and right, and it only rotates the ship instead of turning. then I just decided to use my generic controller, which worked but... the game just doesn't feel right and it's still very hard to even aim

Its old, like really old (Surprised its only 27 years old), like it says: "Astonishing 3D details include real time lighting and special effects (explosions, smoke, engine glow, tracer fire and more)." which at the time was astonishing, but now it is almost required in modern games (and build in to some game engines), also it (if you can get it to run) is kinda fun (if you can learn the controls), and its cheap...
