Played On: HTC Vive Allumette is not a game, but rather an immersive full feature short-film that lasts about twenty minutes. What a marvelous retelling of The Little Matchgirl, in the form of the transcendent ALLUMETTE! For the price of Free, and only a few minutes of one's time, I suspect there is simply no way to go wrong. (And since there are no spoken words, even language barriers fall to the side.) While the VR suggestion is to stand, I suspect I missed very little due to my need to sit. And SO REAL, I literally grabbed for the cane...

This movie proves to me that VR can stretch far beyond games. Storytelling through VR is going to be amazing! This movie is just a glimpse to how it will be! Get it while it's free! Get it while it costs! It doesn't matter! Just get it!

This is excellent for showcasing the telling of stories through VR. Being able to lean forward and look inside the boat, or use leaning back and forth as a means to zoom are experiences only VR can give you. The story is told almost purely visually as there is no real dialogue. The graphics are amazing and watching someone new to VR experience the tale was interesting. While I can appreciate the effort put into this free VR experience, I didn’t care much for it. I felt that the story wasn’t very captivating and could have been condensed down to 5 minutes or less. The jerky visuals didn’t help either; stop frame type of animation isn’t a great fit for VR.

A beautiful little animated short. The VR implementation is really good with a room-scale experience where you can look around at will. Looking around is pretty rewarding since there's a good amount of detail, plus characters continue animations past the point where they leave normal line of sight so you don't catch them appearing and disappearing. Very well done and it's free so why not?
