The Sonic games hold up to the test of time very well as good solid platformers. I had Sonic 2 as a child so I found Sonic 1 rather hard to get into as it does not have the spin dash move. Sonic 1 seems much more unforgiving and difficult compared to sonic 2. This game was one of the harder ones to beat, but once you beat it you learn to appreciate how awesome it really was. Die-hard Sonic fans cannot call themselves that without having played and beaten the old school Sonic games, this included.

This game was my very first SEGA game and I still love it till today! This game got everything you need: +10/10 OST! Really amazing to see such piece of history. A game that works as a DLC for this bundle: The SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics. Which is basically a legal emulation bundle. This game is originally from 1991. Very old. And: I'm happy to see it included on Steam. I have two main positives to say about that: The first cool positive: The ROM is included. The game that started it all and proved that blast processing was a force to be reckoned with. My opinion of this game is a little mixed. On one hand, about half the levels are fast, frantic fun. However, I don't like the slow, repetitive platforming that plagues the other half of the levels. Still, Sonic 1 holds up much better than its 8-bit contemporaries. A must-play.

If you need a fix this and don't want to emulate through other means this will do the trick, but the game doesn't play as well as it does on an actual Genesis. Slowdown where slowdown wouldn't occur, even some audio bugs. Tried a couple unofficial Genesis emulators and they aren't doing it as well as the original system either, very noticeably so.
