I just realized that there was a ton of bad reviews recently. This makes me sad, I enjoyed the game a ton. I am die hard for all Xcom type games. Did it evolve from the older Xcom? Not really but I cannot count how many sequel games that come out and try and reinvent themselves just to be horrible. I will continue to support this franchise. Have Fun!

Xcom 2 is a brilliant game. Good mission structure. Good writing and story missions that are well integrated with the rest of the game. Robust customization that really attaches you to your characters. Permadeath which causes me to play the game differently but never feels overbearing. This game has none of those things. Chimera Squad is like its namesake, a mix of several creatures. You have XCom 2, which provides the base, a slice of Fire Emblem, and a little bit of something new. this game is mid. it doesn't have nearly the depth of 1 and 2 and the wirting is bad. the reason I give it a thumbs down is because this game feels worse then 1 and 2 in everyway. Still if you want a easy xcom game or got this game on discount then it's fine

I think it's worth stating that this is not XCOM3. If you are expecting base building and a randomly generated set of soldiers where permadeath is a thing and you can get yourself into a game-over situation by failing too many missions... it's not that kind of game. Summary of the review: Positive overall take: the game is enjoyable, though quite short. The agents each have distinct personalities that can be amusing. The Breach mechanic is a highlight, but the fixed squad size of only 4 is a major downside. A fun and fresh take on the XCOM formula. I played it around launch and ran into quite a few issues, though a lot of them may have been fixed by now. The economy and progression also felt a little unbalanced at times, but overall it’s a smaller, more experimental XCOM experience that I enjoyed. Definitely worth trying if you’re an XCOM fan and want something a bit different.

Amazing spin off the original series, it is argubaly easier but is fun to play with the alien units and is a different type of tactical turn base rigour

Absolutely solid "mini" entry into the series, simple and entertaining for vets, and accessible for newbies.. I'd actually recommend this game as an intro to the series as I think its a great way to familiarize yourself with the mechanics in an "on rails" format. Solid 8 out 10 in my book
