Makoto Wakaido's Case Files is a mystery adventure game with minimalistic pixel art. Your job is to become detective Wakaido and find the culprit behind all kinds of crimes. Question witnesses, collect info, make deductions, and find the truth behind each case. This streaming will feature about 15 minutes of movie of each of the four episodes. What truth hides behind a gruesome series of murders where the victim was beheaded? Detective Wakaido has to find the culprit in this story inspired by Japan in the '80s and the insurgence of religious cults. Who or what is behind the missing people in this small, secluded village? Detective Wakaido has to find the real reason why several villagers have been spirited away in this story with a rural setting. That's one suspect you never expected to investigate.

Detective Wakaido has been accused of a murder. Will he be able to escape capture and prove his innocence? A mansion shut off from the world by a storm. A supernatural presence haunting its halls and terrifying its guests. Detective Wakaido must find the truth about the ghost who is said to attack those who visit the Weeping Hand Manor.

I played this game after playing Urban Myth Dissolution Center. Up-front, this game is not as good as that one, in my opinion. Playing this game you can see how systems were improved, revised, and added to for UMDC. The later game also has better characters in how they're established and presented, and UMDC also has an artstyle that clearly has built upon this game's. I wouldn't recommend this if you are looking for true gameplay, this is very much a visual novel and a tedious one at that. A ton of clicking through your notes and scrolling through pages. You don't solve any puzzles and you don't make any deductions yourself. The options are also a bit redundant too... A collection of four short and sweet point-and-click detective games. The writing's pretty good and there's some great twists, and the pixel art is very evocative. I should however mention that there isn't much deducing or puzzling things out that you actually need to do, and nothing punishes you for guessing wrong, making this pretty much a visual novel.
