Kanon

A great entry-level visual novel with a nostalgic atmosphere and surprisingly emotional routes that stick with you. It is a great way to either get into visual novels or to have as a pallet cleanser after a much longer read. The wooden colors of the main character's home and the scenery of winter bring in such a wonderful comfort to the foundation of the story that gives the routes an added layer of aura to them....

My room is hot af and im sweating from my eyes while doing the Makoto route. Im not crying its just really hot and someones cutting onions. 10/10

While I cried during Clannad twice, I didn't have the same emotional response when playing Kanon. Maybe it's just a me thing, but I didn't find Kanon quite as amazing as I found Clannad. With that said, I did really enjoy the story, especially Ayus route.

Key's first Visual Novel, which I'm playing for the first time with this re-release. I'd give it a tentative recommendation. I've played Clannad, albeit many years ago, but I can say that if you're expecting anything like that, you probably should heavily temper your expectations. The story is overall pretty sweet and wholesome, and each route has you overcoming some type of painful situation with a little romance...
