11 years after release and the game is still buggy and many achievements are still broken... yup, I would say it was abandoned a long time ago. Broken achievements really bum me out man!

TL;DR, not recommended, its a bad port, and it has pretty noticeable bugs that have gone unfixed for over a decade. If you absolutely want to play this, try to get the DS version instead. Longer version: First, the hitboxes are all wrong. Everything seems to be using oversized/misplaced square hitboxes regardless of the sprite shape itself. If you are expecting a remake of the classic C64 game, this is not what this game is. Instead what you get is a port of some Nintendo DS version. (Addendum: as Sprocket pointed out in the comments, apparently the C64 levels are available in the "retro" section.) Sadly Black Forest Games removed the excellent pixel look of the original Nintendo DS version. I can still recommend the game, but it's a damn shame: The NDS version is perfect.
