Koi-Koi Japan [Hanafuda playing cards]

Turns out traditional card games can be surprisingly intense. Koi-Koi Japan is all about strategy, timing, and silently judging your opponent while sipping tea. 8/10—chill, clever, and makes me feel fancy for knowing what ‘Hanafuda’ means.

This game was pretty much what I expected... a basic Hanafuda game. I would warn though that the menu is entirely unclear about which features were part of the basic game and which were premium content to be unlocked. When the CPU is losing, it will cheat. You will get no useful card and the CPU gets every combos, and it will turn the tide in the last minute. In summary, the single player mode sucks!

I really like that you can play the campaign/single player mode while waiting for an online match - because it takes a hot minute to find other players. I was lucky to match with a cool person who enjoys the game as much as I do and was willing to do rematches over and over, because who knows when I would have matched with another person after them.
