War in The East Public Beta 1.12.05

Right click on the game and select "Properties". Select the “Betas” tab. The Beta tag "Beta - Public Beta" will appear in the Beta dropdown list. Select it and close the Properties window. Steam should now update the game to the beta version. If the update does not start automatically, launch the game to force the update process or 'verify integrity of game files' from the 'Local Files' tab.

Yes, I recommend this game! If you want something more in depth and realistic than HOI IV, you can't go wrong. I'd also suggest the sequel which is an all round better game! Don't pay full price though...check for steam keys on the interwebs.

Very enjoyable well crafted game. Playing solo the AI works well in the early game defending as the Soviets which provides a enjoyable way to learn the game mechanics or just to try out a non historical strategy. Once understanding the game going head to head is the way to go if you can find an opponent who will commit . The game has it's flaws don't they all however WITE1 is true gem a classic game all strategy...

It's great, with some important caveats. You need to be very interested in a WWII wargame. And you need to have tons of patience. If you are patient enough to read some of the manual. And you're patient enough to accept that it doesn't have 3D graphics. And you're patient enough to spend many minutes or even a few hours on a single turn that represents one week of the war. And patient enough to read a lot more...
