Bot Gaiden is a good and very challenging Metroidvania with obstacles that you will have to redo just as often as with games of this genre on the NES or SNES and the looks of PS1 (with a sharper finish, though). I absolutely love this game. I grew up playing NES/SNES side scrolling platform games and a few of my all time favorites were Mega Man II and the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. This game is a tribute to these classic games, with a unique time trial element. If you're looking for a NES Ninja Gaiden meets Megaman speed running platformer then here it is. The concept of going through the levels as quick as you can so that the boss can have lower health and to unlock permanent skills give it a roguelike type of vibe. I had fun playing it so far and would recommend it to folks if they're looking for an old school challenge.
